Insider’s insights from Southwest Recruiting Services
Thinking about using an executive search firm as part of your next job search?
A quick Q &A on what to expect.

Why should I involve a search firm in my job hunt?

There are two advantages to using a recruiter as one of your strategies. First, a search firm will know about jobs that are not made public, so you’re exposed to more opportunities than you would be through traditional channels.

Second, a recruiting firm will market you to their clients, if they believe your skills and personality are a match for the company’s job needs and culture. That’s a benefit to you as well as the company--enhancing the odds for job satisfaction, longevity and career success.

How much do I pay to use the services of a search firm?

Nothing. An executive search firm’s fee is paid by the employer, not by the job seeker. You may be aware of companies that charge the job seeker, such as “career consultants,” or “career transition agencies.” Those are not the same as a search firm.

Do you send out my resume to any companies without letting me know?

No, we will always ask you first. Your confidentiality and trust are a priority.

How long will it take for a search firm to find me a job?

A job search can take days, months or longer, depending on your individual situation. Technically speaking, a recruiter is working on behalf of their client who has commissioned a search…so it is important to understand that a search firm can be a part of your job search, but it should not be the only component.
